Our team is continually aiming to make strides toward reducing our environmental impact, whether through the work we do or the initiatives we strongly support.
In 2021, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve continued to make that commitment to environmental excellence by purchasing 15 carbon offsets from Less.ca! By purchasing carbon offsets from Less.ca, we have demonstrated our continued path toward offsetting GHG emissions from our office usage.
What are carbon offsets?
-
A carbon offset broadly refers to a reduction in GHG emissions – or an increase in carbon storage – that is used to compensate for emissions that occur elsewhere. A carbon offset acts as a credit, which is used as a transferrable unit that is used by governments or various certification bodies to represent an emission reduction of one metric tonne of carbon dioxide (or an equivalent amount of another GHGs)
How did our team conclude on 15 tonnes of carbon dioxide?
-
Our team came to the conclusion of 15 carbon offsets from an estimation of combined usage of our firm’s laptops, smartphones and vehicles. We understand that while the estimation is not a exact capture of our full carbon footprint, we do believe that among the list, our electronic devices and vehicles create the most carbon dioxide in our business.

Why did our team decide to invest specifically into carbon offsets from Less.ca?
-
From a valued source created by the David Suzuki Foundation, the group had conducted a thorough survey analysis of various vendors, their respective projects, and an assessment criteria that demonstrates one’s reliability of managing and distributing carbon offsets.
-
Less.ca ranked among the highest in all areas of the assessment survey (Additionality, Auditing, Permanence, and Unique Ownership), demonstrating their reliability to new purchasers of carbon offsets.
